[ARCHIVED] Construction and Landscaping Worker (Abilene)

Taylor County is seeking qualified applicants forConstruction/Landscaping Worker in the Construction Department.

 

The construction and landscaping worker is involved in construction projects, maintenance programs, and grounds care throughout Taylor County. This is an evolving manual labor position that can encompass many aspects of construction, maintenance, and landscaping.

 

The construction/landscaping worker performs a variety of highly skilled duties including:

  • Helps oversee County-owned building and grounds maintenance projects.
  • Helps maintain and repair equipment such as county vehicles, lawn care equipment, tools, trailers, and heavy equipment.
  • Is responsible for the maintenance of lawns, trees, shrubs, and irrigation systems.
  • Moves offices, furniture, fixtures, boxes, filing cabinets, and other office equipment, as needed.
  • Main construction and maintenance duties include drywall, mud work, doors, trim, framing (wood and metal), painting, light plumbing and electrical, concrete, woodworking, welding, and metal erection.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities include but not limited to:

  • Knowledge of general construction concepts, building repairs, lighting, and mechanical system repairs.
  • Knowledge and operation of lawn mowers and related landscaping equipment; chainsaws, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers is useful.
  • The ability to use such tools as saws, drills, nail guns, grinders and reciprocating instruments is required.

Physical requirements are:

  • Must be able to lift and carry 10-50 lbs. frequently and 50-100 lbs. occasionally, in various environments and weather conditions.
  • Extended periods of standing and walking in both an indoor and outdoor environment.
  • Able to work weekends, additional hours, and at various county locations if needed.
  • Frequent driving, walking, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, crawling, pulling, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching with hands and arms, occasionally in heights and some twisting.

All applicants must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent plus at least two (2) years of experience in construction, maintenance, and or landscaping.

 


Must have or obtain by date of hire a valid Texas Drivers License applicable to job responsibilities, with an insurable driving record.

Hours are Monday-Thursday,6:30 am-5 pm. County vehicle is furnished.

 

Drug screening is required.

 

Starting Salary: $32,423.22 + benefits
