BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY
Performs complex (journey-level) range activity work, consultative services and technical assistance for the Texas Military Department’s (TMD) Range Maintenance and Installation Range Safety programs at a TXARNG Training Center. Work includes live-fire range operations and coordination of range management programs involving live fire training activities, range safety, range maintenance, and range communications and operations. Oversees and ensures the continued operation of the Range Control Operations and Communications Center. Reports to Range Operations Manager and works under general supervision, with moderate for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
WORK HOURS: Shift work; varies, some weekends, 10 hours a day, 40 hours a week.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees range activities as directed by the Range Operations Manager to include the coordination of the range maintenance program in order to ensure fully operational ranges.
- Assists the Range Operations Manager with supervisory duties involving Range Control personnel and serves as the acting chief in the Range Operations Manager's absence.
- Applies and enforces the Installation Range Safety Program to ensure all range activities are conducted in accordance with installation safety guidelines and standard operating procedures.
- Ensures unit personnel are familiar with all safety, radio, and range requirements.
- Inspects ranges prior to the start of the training exercises to ensure weapon systems are in working order and ammunition to be used is appropriate for the training and weapon system.
- Monitors radio transmissions during training exercises to ensure proper range and safety procedures and regulations are followed.
- Maintains and operates the Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS) in accordance with operator's manual, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and other systems-related publications.
MINIMIUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Three years of experience operating and performing military or weapons range activities and coordinating range maintenance and safety programs is required
- Experience using Microsoft Office (such as Outlook, Word, or Excel) is required.
Salary (Pay Basis): $4,000.00 - $4,400.00 (Monthly)
