The
Workforce Center of West Central Texas is a one-stop
center for employment, training, education and workforce services
for employers and job-seekers. The full-service Workforce
Center is located in Abilene. Satellite sites are located
in Albany, Brownwood, Coleman, Eastland, Knox City, Snyder,
Stamford and Sweetwater. The Center and satellite sites were
created to serve residents of the 19-county West Central Texas
region, which is comprised of Brown, Callahan, Coleman, Comanche,
Eastland, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Kent, Knox, Mitchell, Nolan,
Runnels, Scurry, Shackelford, Stephens, Stonewall, Taylor
and Throckmorton counties.
The Center
and satellite sites provide access to a variety of workforce
services and a broad array of information, including Internet
job banks, state and local job postings, labor market data,
and available training and educational opportunities. A variety
of computer-based and printed materials are available at no
charge on topics such as how to conduct a successful job search,
resume preparation, interviewing skills, educational and training
opportunities, job skill requirements, the local economy and
local school and college course listings. Additionally, resources
and referrals are available for childcare services, transportation
assistance, basic education/GED preparation, tax credits for
business and funding to train new or current employees. Services
of the Center are available at no charge. Specialized programs
and services are available contingent on meeting eligibility
requirements such as income, receipt of public assistance,
age, veteran status and residence.
Among
the partners providing services are: West Central Texas Workforce
Development Board, Child Care Associates, Green Thumb, Job
Corps, Texas Workforce Commission and the West Central Texas
Council of Governments.
